looking for a sync cable for the htc touch, i had already done a hard reset, so all the data were erased...
and i didn't want to wait until tomorrow...
i went to Challenger, altho they sell HTC phones, they don't sell the sync cable from htc, along the display i saw this sync cable, and on it was a picture of htc touch! the salesperson is not certain if it works, and also did not offer to test that sync cable...i walked away...
i came to this mobile phone shop and this salesperson - probably just return from his smoking session - and he asked to check the pins of the htc touch, and after checking with his colleague, he took out a cable, and connect it to my htc touch and into the laptop on the counter. after a while, he showed me that the cable is working as the Windows XP or Vista - whatever - has detected the htc touch and asking for CD...
i thought the price was expensive but i bought it anyhow...
so, i had also downloaded the latest pointui, and installed it and it seems the battery drain seems not happening...!? i had done a few GPRS weather updates, plus bluetooth - was attempting to pair up the jabra bt headset - but the battery remains very healthy!!
compared this to the earlier situation where i had installed and uninstalled so many stuff, a few of the uninstallation was not really successful, and the earlier version of pointui, the battery drain was really too fast...
at least, i can say for now that it's not the battery that is the problem, so...some money saved! whew!
updates 5th May: i've decided not to proceed with this application, i had also just terminated another credit card, and a credit line...
i went online to sign up for a no annual fees credit card, even though it says apply online, i still need to print out the form and mail it out, i enclosed a photocopy of my identification and salary statements, and submitted online for another document.
i think it was yesterday or the day before, i got this letter from the bank indicating they need me to sign on the document - which was exactly the same as what i had printed, signed and mailed out - as well as other documents which i had supplied in that mail based on their online requirements!!
somehow, i don't feel pleased about this, and i have 12 days to react as my application would be considered withdrawn after 15 days from Apr 28.
at this stage, i'm deciding to not proceed...
update 22 Nov: so, Singnet called me on Monday and well, i decided to take a colleague's suggestion, leave it as it is, and wait till 2008 to redeem the iPod Touch. From now till 1 Feb 2008, that's about 3 months, for a S$498 gadget, sounds worth the wait...but i still feel the re-contract process needs to be improved...anyway, i think there should not be any drastic impact from 3.5 to 3...but i think the current 3.5M contract is cheaper!...
recently, as I tried to do a re-contract the broadband service since there's a iPod Touch promotion, I came to one portion of the form filling that indicated the service would be activated in Feb 2008.
i wrote to SingNet, and got a reply that they would call me soon...
i didn't know how "soon" is their soon, and thinking that the promotion ends on that Friday, I went ahead with the recontract.
the modem was delivered and much earlier than the timing i had specified, but there was no instructions to redeem the iPod Touch.
i called Singnet this morning, and found that i had in fact done a downgrade from 3.5M to 3M, hence the 3M service would be activated in 2008 when the current 3.5M expires then, and i would then get the letter to redeem the iPod Touch then! in 2008! the officer at the other end kept saying there's no workaround.
i must say, I'm angry, disappointed ... why during the re-contract, when they prompted me for my credentials, their system was not able to advise me accordingly then!?
i had wrote them another email and see what they say...
if i really have to wait until 2008, i might just cancel this re-contract!
i was at Tampines Mall at around 9:55am on 1 Oct (Childrens' Day), and when the time on my HTC Touch showed 10:02am, i walked to the Golden Village box office but the gate was still down...
i return to Long John Silver to continue with my brunch, and after finishing it, at around 10:15am, i walked over and again the gates were still down...
you see, i had signed up the membership and the email informed me to collect between 10am to 10pm...
anyway, the gate was finally opened around 10:30, and I queued up...
so ... how could they email the collection from 10am when they are only really open for business after 10am!?
maybe the person responsible to open the gate was late?
...
had called HP some time back about my home PC, the DVD drive is only able to read and write DVD/DVDR but not able to read CDs...
So, following the support personnels' instruction, downloaded the firmware, tried uninstalling the device, and re-detecting, the problem is still there...
Finally, they said they would send a person down, and it was arranged to be last friday 29th June.
Then, I had to dealt with an urgent matter in the office and called them on the 28th to postpone to today, 6th Jul. The guy at the other end of the line said he would check and call me back...and till wednesday, there was still no confirmation...
I tried to call the helpdesk on Thursday to get a confirmation, but their personnel were busy...
I tried again this morning, and only managed to get through to someone...Finally, I was getting impatient having to listen to all those messages...I should have memorise the number for the options that i had previously pressed and do it on subsequently calls to see if it would skip the messages...
So, after the guy checked, he called me a few minutes later that there was no records of my appointment for today!!
I had expected this...i told the guy i had already taken day off, is there no way to arrange for someone?
In the end, I fixed the appointment for next Friday...
Went to lunch with colleagues, and along the way and during lunch, I was still deciding if I would want to cancel my off. I went back to office, and decided, heck, i cancelled the leave and re-apply for next friday...
I should have called HP, on the day or the day after when the guy didn't call me back about the appointment!!
Anyway, got some work done in the afternoon ... :)
my children and wife each got a few discount vouchers for an optical shop, and since my daughter has been complaining about her spectacles, we decided to check it out.
the shop at simei is small, there's only 2 service guys around, and one of them just pointed to a section for children and left us alone.
after a while, and not that satisfied with the service or the designs, i told my wife to go somewhere else.
we came to another shop, and there, the shop space is much bigger, there's no customer and we were given full attention!
so, in the end, we did not use the discount vouchers...
While browsing the IE favorites, i came upon a link i had kept for a long time, and i'm not comparing it to Joost, because I have not really tried out any of the services...take a look at Live TV broadcasts...
got a call from Challenger about the laptop, it appears to be a motherboard problem.
they will send it back to Asus but the quotation itself would cost me around S$50+, and the cost of a new motherboard would be around S$200+.
so, i asked about the 5 years warranty and he said that covers the service not the parts...argh!!
anyway, what to do? got documents in there that my wife needs...
...
...
now that i think about it, i could have bought an external casing, take out the hard disk to read the data, and buy a new laptop!? .. hmm...
buy a power adaptor?
i went to HP online, and basically have no idea which particular model of the power adaptor i should order.
so, i called the 1800 line and it's like forever on hold. And i am thinking that HP does call centre for other companies, but their own call centre does not seem that effective! it's either there are many calls or not enough manpower to handle or simply boh chap. and if there are many calls, what are the nature of those calls? PC problem? PC Problem due to user don't know how to use or technical problem with the hardware?
so, anyway, i decided to call the company that i bought the laptop from and the guy told me to call HP as they do not sell or order for me, he told me to call the spare parts.
so, i called the HP spare parts which listed 2 companies and i called one of them. He asked for the parts number as that's what they goes by. So, without the adaptor at hand, i had to call HP again, and sent an email as well.
a simple power adaptor and it's so difficult to spend that money!!!?
I'm thinking of buying another power adaptor as well for my Fujitsu as I prefer not to carry the power adaptor here and there...
I'm also waiting for Challenger to call me back about my wife's laptop...
i also came to a promotion page in HP Singapore site but the trade-in promotion ends 31 Dec 2006!! It is listed S$1299, however, the RAM is only 512MB, so, the S$600 you saved for this trade-in basically goes into buying the extra RAM to possibly 2GB. I just don't get it with this kind of sales...in 2007 and they are still giving you only 512MB upfront! Ridiculous!
updates at 2:36PM looks like sending email to HP is faster than calling their hotline. after submitting the email enquiry, i got a likely auto-reply almost immediately. and i just received the email from HP indicating the part number that i should quote to the other part provider.
oh, btw, as it turns out, i'll be doing the upgrade on my own!! i do not need to take the laptop to the shop and they have no service to perform the upgrade for me...well, i supposed that might be good, but it would have been better that Fujitsu could do something more to provide that service as they could get ready the necessary Vista drivers...
updates 15:21, now i'm quite excited! i went to Fujitsu web site and ordered the DVD, it cost S$44. The version that corresponds to Win XP Pro is Vista Business. I almost missed out on the portion that I'm supposed to mail in the proof of purchase and other details...i would have been waiting and waiting...
I could only hope those companies that we bought laptops and PCs from could have taken an extra mile to keep track of us, and take the initiative or pro-activeness to contact us about express upgrade to Windows Vista...while I agree that logistics might be a challenge, but then hey, how big really is Singapore? alternatively, work with Microsoft Singapore and pool their resource if it may be, I'm quite sure Microsoft would be willing to assist, financially or otherwise...:)
