this R2D2 projector really packs lots of functions!!
can someone add on design to make it into some sort of a artificial intelligence domestic helper? er...maybe that should be C3P0 ...
anyway, my colleague brought up an interesting point in terms of energy saving:
it does not mean that by you switching off the power in your home, the power generator would produce less power. it would still produce the same amount of power daily, and would not be regulated by demand...so, with the power that was supposed to come to me going to someone else, where is the nett savings in energy? i'll probably get a smaller bill though...
... this reminds me of a similar question on water. we have seen those shower heads that salesperson says would help to save water; but the issue is the meter would have started, and water started to flow ... it could just be a false impression due to seemingly less water or smaller force of water, but the water meter is still running at its usual pace!
as my ex-colleagues used to say, if you need 3 litres of water to shower, you need that much regardless of the type of shower head you use...
i heard PM Lee mentioned something about Singapore shutting down, etc etc but I was not certain.
in today's New Paper, there is an article and it confirmed what i heard but i still don't quite understand:
extracted text from the article "...even if Singapore is to shut down the whole of Singapore, no lights, no fans, no air cons, no cars, buses, MRT, nothing, the amount of carbon saved will be the same as three days of energy consumption in China."
i keep thinking over this sentence, and - unless someone tells me otherwise - the duration of how long Singapore shits down was not mentioned, but if Singapore shutting down one day is equivalent to 3 days of consumption in China, i would think that means our level of consumption is quite high, don't you think? considering Shanghai or Beijing is almost as big as Singapore, and as modern as us...?
having said that, I still feel the U.S., and other well developed countries have a more major role to play than us...
...
i'm still pondering over another manner of interpretation...:)
went to Funan Centre recently and i noticed the speed of the escalators were moving at a very slow speed, however, when you walked toward and nearer to it, the speed became faster.
my wife said this is the so-called energy-saving escalators.
but the air-condition is too cold...
the roof is in fact see-through, so that sunlight could shine in, but the many many lights are still turned on!
...
anyway, it's a start...
