Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke
by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE
(Coherently) i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks,
call your local emergency number immediately and describe the
symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke ------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person
to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked',
if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an
indication of a stroke.
speaking about timing, so there, Bill G is out of Microsoft ...
and i'm currently reading the book by Mary Jo Foley, entitled Microsoft 2.0 ... i thought it could have been 3.0...
When Paul Allen left, Bill Gates-only era could have been 2.0, and now that he's also left, Steve Ballmer's era would be 3.0 ...
i would always recommend the following to anyone who's interested to know about the history from Silicon Valley, and how on hindsight, the fateful decisions made by several people of that era...
for as long as i could remember, i had not consider an ipod for my mp3 player, if i were ever to get one - which of course, now i have 2! and both are iPods!!
i have always knew what i'm looking for in the mp3 player:
1. huge, huge disk space - 160GB sounds alright to me, for now...
2. will not burn a hole in my wallet...
3. ... still thinking ...
i have always been telling myself that since i'm using a laptop most of the time, i could just plug in that external hard disk and that's it...but after doing this for a few years, i'm getting kind of tired and sick of having to take out that laptop, boot it up, start winamp, and then...
but i was certain i won't get an ipod...yeah, right...
so, Zune came and i thought, that's nice but again, small capacity, until the 2nd generation with an 80GB model that i almost got my Microsoft acquaintance to get it for me while he was at Redmond. And CREATIVE never did release any mega gigs mp3 player.
so, then i renewed my singnet plan and got that ipod touch, which got me re-started with podcasts, and i filled up the 8GB with mostly vodcasts and podcast - most popular vodcast would be those TED Talks, and most recently, The New Earth vod/pod-cast by Oprah and Eckhart Tolle , and well, many many more...i've also started collecting audiobooks, and quite tempted to subscribed to audiobooks.com (as i have been listening to the Windows Weekly podcast) ...
so, i told myself just have to wait...and wait i did, until i got this brochure from Citibank that i came to this 160gb ipod classic!! that's the same size as the external hard disk that i'm using right now!
so, there...whether it's on impulse or otherwise, i bought that ipod classic, with blessings from my wife...:P
there was no discount, even though it's during the Great Singapore Sale, but at least, i earned some reward points...
i'm very certain that if there's a similar 160gb player, i'd probably have gotten that other brand...but alas, the timing, plus my personal mood, etc etc...
watching video on ipod touch is definitely nice, but it's not too bad on ipod classic though...
gosh, so little time, and so many stuff, right!!
right!
i was listening to this podcast, and they mentioned stuff like DOS, Warp, Windows 1.0, 3.0, 3.11 ... and somehow, my thoughts linked to Alan Parsons Project and Melissa Manchester ...
now, i've got that inkling to go and buy their albums ...
wonder what my brother did to his collection of records, hopefully he didn't throw them away ... they should be precious now!
let me go youtube and relive those songs again! ...
and i was at the office around 10am.
i was not supposed to be involved, but had taken over from a colleague to follow-up on the activities and today was scheduled. at around 12+, we were ready to call it a day, but my colleague came in and said one of the servers got problem, the monitor was blank!
in the end, we called HP for support around 1pm, and my colleague and i went for lunch...and he missed a call from the technical support. we got re-connected and he said he'll be coming down. so, there would be a bit of waiting time which we could not do anything to the servers, so, my colleague went off to pick up his wife, while i went home to check on my son who's home alone...
i return to office around 5:30 but the support guy has not arrived! he finally came around 6+ and after some checks, it was confirmed the motherboard was faulty, but then he dropped the bombshell to announce that the spare parts were wrong!! and we had to wait another 2 hours before the right parts arrived around 9+!!
i was told by another colleague that i do not have to stay, but i thought it's only proper that since i'm following up on the task, i should follow through, especially when one of the servers hit an issue, i should not leave just like that and treating as if it's none of my business...
i called another colleague for assistance but i thought he might not be pleased as he was not informed earlier. well, that's really not my business as emails was sent to almost every person, and back up personnel. he said i was lucky to catch him as he's just reached home. i told this colleague seated beside me that isn't he lucky that he's at home, while the 2 of us are in the office. i mean, there's always 2 sides of an issue, it's a matter of how you choose to look at it.
in between, i think i dozed off, and did some work...so, i had told my wife that i would not be going down to her mother's place today. she managed to get her sister to bring our son there as he's home alone...
i reached home around 10+, and after watching the last bits of LOTR on TV, i'm now watching a DVD, Strip Search...
so...
today is Saturday, 28 Jun and that's how i spent my 40th birthday!
when i got the ipod touch, and ipod classic, there were these accessories which i found no instructions or explanations as to their purposes...
well, i finally found that out...
the white thing is for dock speakers...if need to, to be placed at the docking station.
as for that transparent thing, refer to the middle picture, it's for holding up the ipod touch, there's no such accessories that comes with ipod classic.
but i realised that as the earphone jack is at the bottom, you would need to place the holder on a elevated platform so that the cable for the speakers could hang down as i have tried in that 3rd picture...
the small black round thing is a X-Mini speaker, a free gift from the ABN AMRO bank.
well, my wife recently decided that she does need a pda, as she takes notes, and well, other pda-related stuff...
i told her before to consider before she decided to sell the htc touch...her main concern was that the text was too small, but recently she found out from a friend on how to increase the text size...most people we went to have no idea how to increase the font size, but her friend got all the time in the world to explore and found the settings...
have to say, i'm a bit disappointed at myself for not finding out this setting... :(
so, anyway, she decided to get a pda phone, and was looking at the white colour htc touch, but there's no promo whatsoever, and it cost about S$548...with 3G iPhone, LG, Samsung and HTC new models, the price should drop ... not idea how soon though...
we went to a few mobile shops, but in the end went to check out Starhub and Singtel. She finally decided on the LG KS20, although it's still black...she was also looking at Samsung Omnia, there's no stock and need to order online, besides, she's not comfortable there's no stylus ... we didn't like HTC Touch Diamond ...
after 21 Jul, would our singtel contract reached 1 year, and only after then, would we get discounts for handset upgrade, so, even if we get a new line, the LG KS20 would set us back S$498, there about...
we went to Starhub and getting a new line, and her corporate rate, the LG KS20 cost one hundred less...i thought of signing up under my name since we got the SCV, but a better deal appeared to let her sign on her corporate rate...
in future, if we want to, we would need to take the set-top boxes and transfer to her name...
yeah, so, Vox didn't really have a good search of my own blogs, and i might have blogged about this before - i found the list from my old blog - so, anyway, just making a list of the various mobile phones that i have used before...

Not sure if I have missed out any... :P
well, got a free ticket to the aviva open...but i had to go to bugis to buy the ticket for my son, his ticket S$3 ...
i don't recognise the names of the players, except Peter Gade from Denmark who unfortunatey lost out in today's semis...
at the entrance, i had noticed a few yellow human size figures and asked my son to take a picture, which he declined...
then while the match was in progress, we realised these yellow figures posing along the aisle...that's one of them in the third picture...
